Karan Shanmugarajah, CFA® - CEO
Karan was a Portfolio Manager at Barclays in London overseeing $500 million in client assets. He was a member of the North American Equity Committee and a voting member of the Selection Committee responsible for multi-asset reference portfolios across the UK and Europe. Karan has also worked in Canada and Singapore. He is currently a director at a London-based charity that promotes entrepreneurship.
Joe Campbell - CTO
Joe has over 15 years of software development experience within media and finance. He has worked at the BBC, Egg Banking, BNP Paribas and most recently as Development Lead at Barclays Wealth. He has an excellent track record of building high performing teams that thrive on excellence and innovation.When Joe isn't honing his own coding skills he's often found coaching others or contributing to open-source projects.
Chris Wright - Head of security
Chris has nearly 2 decades' experience of building software in the financial services industry. Prior to joining WealthKernel, Chris was an Executive Director at Morgan Stanley, where he built electronic trading systems. Before that, Chris led development at low-latency statistical arbitrage hedge fund, IV Capital. He began his career in financial services at UBS, after gaining a masters degree in Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
Chris Barton - Head of operations
Prior to joining WealthKernel, Chris was the Head of Centralised Investment Management at Barclays Personal Investment Management, a business of 18,000 portfolios. He also oversaw Portfolio Management Operations across the UK. Chris is passionate about diversity within the financial sector and beyond, working with The Great Initiative running workshops around gender and sexuality in London schools.
In December 2016, Bob withdrew from Wellington Management Co. Over the last 21 years at WMC, Bob founded, built, and led the Global Fixed Income group. He was a lead investor and responsible for the global macro, currency, and credit investment and business platform located in Boston and London. At the end of 2016, the WMC global bond assets-under-management totalled over $100billion with 300+ clients around the world.
Tej is a Managing Director with BMO Capital Markets in London. He has built successful businesses in Europe, Asia Pacific and North America. His experience includes structured products, debt capital markets and equities finance. His current sector focuses lean toward technology, consumer, financials, industrials & resources. Tej holds a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Systems Design Engineering with an option in Management Sciences from the University of Waterloo in Canada.
Kevin was the former CEO and founder of both Intrinsic Financial Services and Bellpenny having raised significant multi million pound funding to build both businesses. Bellpenny specialises in consolidating the investment funds under management of other financial services firms where the principals are retiring or otherwise wish to exit the financial services industry. He has built in house asset management capability and DFM propositions. Also served as Marketing Director of Allied Dunbar and Zurich Life in the UK, having started in financial services in 1979 by building a very successful financial planning franchise, subsequently sold in 1997. Currently founder of business growth consultancy, Clarus Fortior.
WealthKernel was co-founded by Karan Shanmugarajah, Joe Campbell and Yannick Brunner in 2015. Karan, then a portfolio manager at Barclays, witnessed a significant drop in face-to-face client servicing on the back of increasing costs driven by regulation. He reached out to Joe, at the time development lead at Barclays Wealth and Yannick, a derivatives trader knowledgeable in financial regulation, to build a new type of financial services company. One which combined the world's leading technology practices with a deep understanding of financial regulation.
